When I raised the ceiling in the garage I had a lot of wood left over. Not wanting to throw it away and being in need of a big solid bench I figured I'd build one. All the boards were 2x6s, so the work bench ended up being quite sturdy.
For the top I used 2 sheets of 3/4" plywood and a spare 2x6 on the back edge to form a ledge. It's taken quite a beating over the last year and I've been real happy with it.
